Holy Trinity Church |
Welcome to Holy Trinity Church, Taunton!
We are far more than a church which just has services on Sundays. There are
regular services in both the church and the parish throughout the week, as we
try to care for those who are able to come to church, and those who are not. We
try to meet the spiritual, sacramental and pastoral needs of the young, the
elderly, the fit and the not so fit, the committed and the seeking. As well as
formal services, there are also regular informal services, meetings and
discussion groups.
The Parish
Holy Trinity Church Taunton is one of the largest Church of England parishes in Taunton.
Situated in the south east of the town, the parish extends from close to the
town centre all the way out to the M5. The parish church is just 100 yards
behind East Reach, the main road into the town centre from the Bridgwater exit
of the motorway or A38.
Facilities
The Church itself has a hearing loop and sound system and disabled access. There
is plenty of room for pushchairs or wheelchairs; large print books are always
available. For the young, there are busy bags. Toilets are available, but
unfortunately internal sanitation was not high on the Victorian builders’
agenda, and they are not presently easily accessible for those with mobility
difficulties! The two hall buildings on the church site are frequently used by
the local community: a Playgroup, Folk Dancers, Weight Watchers, Table Tennis
players all have regular bookings, and the halls are also available for private
hire at competitive rates.
Music
Having a superb organ (and organist) as well as outstandingly clear acoustics,
Holy Trinity Church is often used for concerts throughout the year, by recitalists or
groups and choirs. There is always an evening of music and readings performed by
local primary and secondary school children which is very popular and
successful, as well as more formal concerts. Usually, there is a liturgical
performance of one of the great composers’ masses – a rare opportunity to hear
the music performed in the context for which it was composed.

Eucharist
Holy Trinity Church is essentially a sacramental church, and worship is centred on the
Eucharist, which is celebrated every day except Mondays. Most of the services
use modern language, the main service being the 10am Parish Eucharist on
Sundays, which is both modern yet traditional. Children are always welcome, and
a Sunday School meets at the same time. Also on Sundays, there is Evensong every
week, using the Prayer Book.
